Changes in CeWe management
- Thomas Grunau to become new Marketing Director
- Michael Wefers to go out on his own at the end of the year
Thomas Grunau appointed Marketing Director
Thomas Grunau, 36, joined the CeWe Group on 1 April 2008 and will with
immediate effect reinforce the CeWe Color management as its Marketing
Director.
After completing his Business Administration studies in Hamburg, during
which he majored in Marketing and International Management, Thomas Grunau
commenced with his professional career in the product marketing department
of Intershop AG. For the last six years he was employed by Tchibo, where he
held a managerial position and was responsible for establishing new
business divisions. He then held the position of Marketing and Sales
Director with Tchibo Mobilfunk GmbH & Co. KG, which was responsible for the
mobile communications line of business.
Expanding marketing expertise
Grunau's most important aims include developing and establishing the CEWE
PHOTO BOOK brand and other added value photo products as well as the
development and implementation of the innovative product strategies of
Europe's leading photo services company. Expanding the marketing activities
of the full CeWe Color product portfolio in the Internet and reinforcing
the brand-name and product presence at the points of sale of the numerous
retail partners of CeWe Color are further tasks on hand. 'With Thomas
Grunau's assistance, CeWe Color is enhancing its expertise as a specialist
for the industrial mass production of personalised photo products,' says
Dr. Rolf Hollander, Chairman of the Board of Management of CeWe Color.
Michael Wefers leaves the company
Michael Wefers, 50, Director of CeWe Color Holding AG, has decided to go
out on his own and assume full entrepreneurial responsibility himself in
future. He is hence leaving CeWe Color on 31 December 2008 after more than
13 years of successful collaboration.
The 13 years he spent in the employ of CeWe were characterised by
continuous changes throughout Europe: the generational change with the
transition from founder to management, the fundamental shift in technology
and its consequences for the business model and the products of the company
and the merger of two collective bargaining associations are only a few
distinctive examples of these processes of change. While his main tasks
were initially staff recruitment and advancement, the focus of his work
shifted to restructuring and reorganisation activities. In addition to
European human resources management, his legal expertise was required for
numerous M&A projects to promote new growth and most recently notably in
the 2007 Annual General Meeting, when the company had to defend itself
against the demands of American hedge funds. In this case the
responsibility he bore for CeWe Color investor relations tasks became
particularly significant.
Michael Wefers self-employed as of 2009
As of January 2009 Michael Wefers will become another Director with Wefers
& Coll. Unternehmerberatung GmbH in Oldenburg. His special task in this new
environment will involve the work that he performed successfully for CeWe
Color for 13 years: organising change management processes in difficult
transformation phases and merger and post-merger integration, including
corporate mind changes. If this proves to be effective, Wefers will also
assume operative responsibility within the scope of these processes. He
will retain his links with CeWe Color in a consulting function.
Transfer of tasks in CeWe Color management
The three functions performed by Wefers are to be distributed as follows:
Dr. Michael Fries, Director of the German operations, will assume
additional responsibility for Human Resources Management. Dr. Olaf
Holzkämper, Director of Finance & Controlling and company development, is
to bear co-responsibility for Investor Relations. Responsibility for Legal
Management is to be assumed by Andreas F.L. Heydemann, CFO.
